No One Likes to Have Their Faults Pointed Out
I learned this from my brother, who likes to relentlessly point out other peoples’ faults, imperfections, incorrect thinking, unwise ways of being and character flaws, while acting like he is practically perfect in every way. It is so annoying that I hardly talk to him anymore.
I learned this from a girl I went on three dates with. She had a habit of criticizing me over stupid little things. So I stopped talking to here.
I learned this from my father, who once said, “I cannot help but be critical and judgmental of people and the world when they are not the way I think they should be”. The last time I saw him, he expressed his disgust and disapproval at me for not behaving in the exact, precise and specific manner that he saw as most appropriate, over something absolutely inconsequential. He always likes to criticize and put other people down. So I don’t talk to him anymore.
Then, I think about who my friends are. We speak kindly to each other. We uplift and encourage each other. We celebrate each other’s strengths, rather than criticize each other’s weaknesses.
What kind of person are you? What kind of people do you prefer to be around?
