Listening Versus Problem Solving
In polarity work, it is a common theme that the feminine way of listening to you talk about your problems is to simply listen, understand, and empathize. In contrast, the masculine way of listening is to seek to find a solution to the problem.
Remember that one of the greatest human needs and desires is to be seen and heard, to be witnessed and understood.
Often, when someone tells you their struggles, challenges and problems, they simply want you to listen, not to attempt to solve their problems for them.
There is a practice you can implement in your life that will greatly enhance the closeness and trust in your relationships: When someone tells you about their problems, before you start to offer unsolicited advice and start to solve their problems, ask them:
“Would you like me to simply listen, or would you like me to help you seek solutions?”
You will surprise your friends, and create connection, rather than separation.
