It is Okay to Grieve, But Not to Self-Pity
Life contains difficult experiences, ranging from mildly unpleasant to excruciatingly painful. This is the first of Buddha’s Four Noble Truths, the basis for all of Buddhism. It is more commonly know as “Life is Suffering”.
You will experience loss, heartbreak and grief. I am not certain that grief can be completely overcome. And that is okay.
But it will serve you well to understand that, while you may always carry some pain in your heart after loss or heartbreak, pitying yourself is demoralizing, disempowering, counterproductive, and never a wise idea.
Be aware of the difference between grief and self-pity. Allow yourself to grieve. But do not pity yourself.
